Last night at Anne Litt’s there were cocktails and there was gardening. In that order.  It finally feels like summer. Basil is abundant in Anne’s garden.  She is using it to make pesto and cocktails.   Our friend David Lentz (The Hungry Cat) was kind enough to share his Basil Gimlet recipe with us.  Delicious!  Here it is;
the basil gimlet 2 oz Hendricks Gin 1oz Basil Simple Syrup** 1oz Fresh lime juice GLASSWARE:  Double Old Fashioned GARNISH: Fresh Basel leaf Combine Gin, Bail Simple Syrup and Lime Shake and strain over fresh ice. **Basil Simple Syrup: 5 cups water to 5 cups of sugar.  Bring to a boil. Take A handful of healthy, clean basil.  Reduce heat and let simmer for 20-25  minutes, stirring now and then.  Remove from heat and strain
